In today’s post-modern era, multiple definitions have been revised and retold, that of successful businesses being one of them. Earlier, as the famous clichéd saying goes, the key to success would be regarded as patience. However ironically in today’s day and age no one has the time for patience. So then how does one become successful in the 21st century? And how exactly does one describe a successful businessman? Is it the one who works hard day and night to make his business reach immense heights or is it the one who knows his efficiency as well as his employees’ capability and allocates work based on such traits? Surprisingly, it is a blend of both! The one who is responsible enough to handle one’s own business and strive towards achieving their goal but who is also wise enough to not take all the burden on oneself and distribute work based on his employees’ capabilities to achieve an all-round target.
Time Management

The first rule towards having a successful work-life balance is time management. No matter how clichéd that sounds, time management is one of the most essential requirements in achieving a full work-life balance. Managing time can surely be a difficult task, especially for young entrepreneurs who have just started out in their business ventures and are always busy trying something new. However sometimes it is better to just focus on one aspect of your career and give it full attention and time, rather than trying to satisfy the old, demanding stereotype of humans being able to multi-task, which more than usual ends up being a failure.
Discipline
Time management alone does not satisfy the balance between personal and professional life, discipline is needed too. Especially the way today’s young generation leads their lifestyle focused on social media platforms most of the time, discipline has to be one of the key elements in building a successful work-life balance. By discipline one does not mean having a fixed schedule like that of a 12-year old kid and going to bed on time and eating your meals everyday, rather discipline is maintaining yourself and your time wisely. It is better to keep a fixed set of hours for working and a fixed set of hours saved for one’s own personal life to do something productive. This will not only help manage your personal and professional life easily but will also result in more productivity in your work.
Leisure time

One of the most significant elements in achieving a successful work-life balance is having one’s own leisure time. No matter how hard work has been or how tiring your day was, it is of utmost importance to dedicate some time to yourself. According to studies, this not only enhances your work productivity but also results in one being more healthy and happy. Also try exercising at least three to four times a week or meditating, if possible. This will boost your mood and immunity and result in prolonged happiness and ease chronic stress that most people face in their work environment. Reading books, meditating, drawing, painting, spending time with your loved ones or even just taking your dog out for a walk can create a positive change in one’s mood, thus leading them to perform better and take better business decisions rather than a person who procrastinates a lot and doesn’t dedicate any time towards one’s own physical, mental and emotional health.
Stop procrastinating
The art of procrastination is followed by one and many, however the capability of getting out of that zone is the real task. It is quite easy to start procrastinating and many people have the tendency of not following up on deadlines because of this practice, however it should be understood that there is a certain limit to which one should procrastinate. Keeping reminders and setting a goal/target for oneself can be an effective mediator of stopping this self-consuming practice. Another way to stop procrastination can be by becoming more self aware and distancing yourself from things for the time-being, that you know are responsible for this habit of yours. Lastly, by keeping rewards after you’ve achieved your target which will motivate you to work more efficiently next time.
Develop a positive outlook

It is very important for one to have a positive mindset while working. This not only helps in your professional life but also attracts good relations in your personal life. Work-life balance can only be achieved if you believe in the idea of you being able to achieve it. Having a positive outlook on things helps give clarity in thoughts and makes one work harder towards achieving their goals and/or targets. This will enhance your personal relations with colleagues and will help one keep realistic targets and work towards them.
In today’s world, prioritising between your work and personal life can be quite challenging. However, studies show that a poor work-life balance can result in an unhealthy level of stress, unhappiness and can also decrease productivity. There is no doubt that finding a balance can be hard, but it is possible. With some important boundaries, you can find a healthy life outside of your office doors.
